The USA is very fortunate to have such vast coal reserves. Not only do they guarantee low cost electricity, but will eventually cap liquid fuel costs via CTL technology in addition to GTL. We can't burn enough coal and as conventional crudes become ever more rare and expensive, CTL will come into its own.
