Switzerland has a combined population equal to maybe the 3rd largest MSA in the US. Covering the population of Switzerland would be like covering the population of D/FW. There is a vast difference when you have a dozen or 20 levels of government between the person responsible for running the organization and the beneficiary.

That is why Medicare is a train wreck and a money pit even though it has the luxury of total price controls. It can't function because nobody is responsible if it doesn't.

And so what we how have is a system that after only one or two generations of "working" is on the brink of collapse, where benefits are being cut which obviously drives up the cost of health care for everyone else.
