There is this liberal idea that property theft isn't really that serious because after all, it's just stuff and stuff isn't really important in the big picture.

But actually what a thief does is rob you of the time you spent creating the wealth to purchase the stuff.

A thief makes you his slave. The wealth you slaved to create he takes, just like a slave master.

So yes property theft IS a big deal.
