Well, I bear part of the responsibility for that too. I did try to cut it out a couple of times, but seemed every time I backed off, he became more demanding and unreasonable.
I could see you were trying to 'joke' him out of his funk .... but he overlooked your obvious humor and insisted on responding in a harsh, insulting manner. I don't hold anything against him personally, and take very, very little I see here in a serious light, when it comes to this back and forth banter. Hey, it's the internet, and very few people would behave in person as they do here, in their anonymous posting status.
That's a real shame, because I do think he has the capability to be a reasonable guy. He seemed upset that I, a 'newbie' would ever challenge anything he, a 'veteran' here, would say, but I'm 60 years old and there isn't much anymore I haven't seen in one form or another.
