Additionally, for a company that has as strong a wireless IP portfolio as Nokia, switching from their own OS to WP has allowed them to extract a significant licensing revenue stream from Cupertino. Microsoft provides the IP indemnification needed for WP, making Apple's strength in IP moot as far as Nokia is concerned. They couldn't say the same if they were still developing Meego and certainly not with Android.
