RE: Advent

I'm not saying that NOV shouldn't have tried Advent. The market (e.g. refund loans) changed just as they launched. It was very unclear as to what the ramification of that would be. Also, it's clear now (but wasn't then) that the folks who were getting refunds were not necessarily looking for a debit card. Maybe it was a lack of understanding, the market channel or who knows. Anyway, I don't think they have made sufficient inroads into the debit market to be competitive.

I don't know their current metrics for run rate expenses. It may be such that they give it one more year then decide, but but they have limited talent and money. Management (Lance) needs to decide if Advent's resources could best be used elsewhere. Just because one idea didn't pan out doesn't mean there are some more good ones out there...

I guess the only major gripe I have is the loan to ITS. Lance got snookered on that one. It would be interesting to find out where ITS ranked on bringing clients to Advent - though I suspect if they were a big source of the revenue we would have heard about it (as justification for the loan).

In any case Streetlinks is sure a home run. With Corvisa being called out independently, I'd like to see it reported independently going forward (or folded in to the holding company). With Corvisa being reported as part of SL, it's hard to tell its impact.

Spaz
