Please help me add to this list. Feel free to disagree with me on any items, but please provide support... The worst mistakes ever by the United States government -- not completing President Lincoln's Liberia Project (repatriation of all former slaves and their descendants back to Africa) -- not completing President Eisenhower's Operation Wetback (deportation of all illegals and their descendants) -- not enforcing immigration laws -- implementing social security/medicare/medicaid -- implementing food stamps -- implementing government health care -- preventing business owners from firing union employees -- allowing gerrymandering -- passing race-based laws, including affirmative action and civil rights laws -- starting the United Nations -- allowing Iran to become a nuclear power -- abandoning the gold standard -- approving fiat currency -- allowing the Federal Reserve (central bank) to manage the nation's currency -- buying stocks and bonds in corporations -- bailing out failed corporations -- releasing violent criminals There are many, many more, of course, but I see these as among the very worst mistakes committed by the federal government.
