How about, dare I say it, MSFT? It would be one big fight, but MSFT might have

It would be a big fight. But taking over SUN serves Microsoft
no value. The only reason that M$ would want to take over SUN
is to liquidate it. M$ is not into hardware, but if they start
selling Sparc based servers it will only anger their ally - Intel.
A much better take over target would be SGI; they are weaker
financially at this point.

I am not sure if Microsoft has enough cash, but they do have
a much larger market captialization than SUN. Which means that
they can do a stock swap merger.

But again, IMHO the only other plausible candidate to take over Sun
is IBM.
