Anyone out there have a good handle as to the real reason why Washington wants to send forces in to police Syria verus say, one of a dozen other hotbeds out there where the local despots continue to crack down viciously on civilians? Is it due to its proximity to Israel, Assad's frendliness towards Iran and the Palestinians, or all the above?

Why we should want to see Assad fall? That's easy, it would cut the "Shia Crescent" and cut Iran off from Hizbullah. We owe Assad -- he let a thousand jihadis into Iraq, where they killed a thousand American soldiers. We also owe Iran, the terror masters, big-time. They have been at war with us since 1979, and are responsible for the deaths of another thousand American soldiers in Iraq. But there is no need to send troops, with Syria in rebellion. Just send assistance to the rebels, as the Saudis are doing without American aid.

Now, why does Obama make noises about sending troops to Syria? Because he feels pressured by the UN. Though why the UN has decided to notice the latest 100 dead Syrians, and not the previous 10,000, I cannot quite figure out.

You have to remember that Obama is geopolitically absolutely clueless. Everything he thinks he knows is upside down and backwards. At this point, he's just desperately hoping to play 'kick the can' so he can get through November.
