Hi Jim, Martin, all the other FTEL folks who dropped by,

I looked at the website at Syracuse but they don't mention FTEL as a business partner nor do they give a description of the hardware used etc. I noticed that this group at Syracuse is working on ATM and FTEL has an OC-3 story in their Hurricane NIC on the IP side and so FTEL would be a natural choice for them. If the group had been more interested in the telephony side (line interface/DSP), they may not have chosen FTEL because the FTEL telephony side isn't as strong as many of their competitors (it takes 4 FTEL telephony boards to do what 1 NMS board does for example). FTEL has a slim market lead based on ATM; I am still looking for them to convert this into money. I am also on the lookout for other companies building OC-3 NICs that will plug into an MVIP system like FTEL does. These will turn up soon, and that will be the time when FTEL starts to lose their edge in voice quality.

In the meantime, FTEL should be trying very hard to turn the lead into money. FTEL will be a player in the market, I would hesitate to predict an outright coup for it though.
