11/25/97 Intel's Active Marketing Of New Chip May Hurt Earnings,
Analyst

PALO ALTO, Calif. -(Dow Jones)- Morgan Stanley Dean Witter
analyst Mark Edelstone said Tuesday that Intel Corp.'s
aggressive efforts to market its Pentium II chip may cut into
1998 earnings.
In a research note, Edelstone cut his 1998 earnings estimate
on the industry-leading maker of microprocessors for personal
computers to $4 from $4.20 a share.
Intel's determination to push the Pentium II will lead to
aggressive price cuts, with the first likely to take place in
January and perhaps as early as December, the note said.
Intel typically cuts prices four times a year, but the first
regularly scheduled cut doesn't usually take place until
February.
Earlier this month, Lehman Brothers Inc. analyst Michael
Gumport wrote that he had heard from clients that Intel was
planning to cut prices in December.
