What do you think about the S13a filed on Oct 8? It appears that OBJS's largest shareholder bailed out by selling 1.8 million shares.

This concerns me very much. In addition Object Share did not make an appearance at OOPSLA 97 and has not been mentioned in Object magazine where they were once the primary source for product information in the object-oriented environment. This magazine is put out by SIGs, the organization that sponsors OOPSLA. OOPSLA is the biggest object-oriented language independent conference in the US. Object share apparently quietly canned their new product line announced 9 months ago, originally due in first quarter 98. The name was something like Object Component Environment and was aimed at fortune 500 companies. The Smalltalk line also seems to be on hold.

On the positive side Object Share is doing a decent job with its Parts for Java line with recent good press in Byte, PC Week, and an Internet related magazine.

While I applaud Object Share's focus on consulting services and mainstream products, it is disturbing that Object Share no longer seems to be courting the fortune 500 companies. It was their ability to develop serious integrated products for large companies that at one time propelled ParcPlace stock over $20 per share. I am not suggesting that Object Share return to the high cost Marketing policies of a year ago, but a few well placed dollars might help secure their name as a player in the large scale object-oriented development environment.

What are your thoughts? As disapointed as I am with ObjectShare, the current price still seems like a bargain given their maretable product lines, their relatively low debt, and liquid assets close relative to market capitalization.
