insulting and abusive to everyone... anyone who behaves that way is going to be escorted out the door without ceremony... wouldn't you agree?
In general, I am in support of decent and considerate discourse regardless of who or what we think the "other" party is. It is a basic fact of human existence that we are born into a condition of animus for one unto another. We needn't simply succumb to our lowest nature; we can and should rise above that condition to one of redeemed harmony, where kindness, and consideration for one another is our primary mode of operation.
I have no problem with showing anyone "the door," when you feel there is just cause. It is, however, a matter of honor that we include the person in any discussion where they or their conduct is a topic of conversation and where we choose not to do that, we hold our tonges. It also happens to be a TOU we all agreed to when we entered the SI forum.
Certainly, this thread is not a free for all name calling fest. It may not be a free for all in the sense that people would be allowed to call names back and forth but the thread is a pretty well established platform for "calling names" directed at persons representing opposing views.
WRT John's question, I don't know anyone personally who lives a more conservative life style than I do. I always consider ideas and my position on matters of consequence with an open mind...so my outlook on what could or should be a path to take on any given problem is liberal minded. I am usually banned on sight from liberal threads because I refuse to take forced choice positions as a criterial of membership, I prefer to give thought to issues and then speak my mind, and I always speak only for myself. I am not defending JLAllen's conduct, he is perfectly capable of standing up for himself, I am merely noting the obvious regarding the fairness issue. Do you really think he should be a topic of conversation in a discussion where he has no voice? |
