A couple of things.

1. I am not speaking with a forked tongue. I am speaking what I believe. And I think the current system where employed people get healthcare benefits and unemployed do not is a wretched system and should be ended. A clear government distortion.

2. I don't believe in all or nothing solutions. Fix obvious problems independent of other problems. Baby steps.

3. I personally despise the health insurance industry and feel without the government tax subsidy, health insurance utility would be greatly reduced. ie Health insurance is valuable because of the subsidy.

4. I am in favor of a public option under conditions that would probably be unacceptable. My thoughts are complicated and I don't have the time to outline them here. But there are conflicts.
4a. Risk pools are required and a national risk pool makes sense.
4b. How do you compel people to pay (My opinion... states can, but the fed cannot)
4c. How do you allocate resources... death panels are absolutely required.
4c1. 65 year old, lifelong chain smoker does not get $100,000 cancer treatments. Sorry.
4c2. Premie babies die. We don't spend $100,000 to save 5 month old fetus... just because the tech makes it possible.
4c3. All children get their broken arms fixed.

So, the first step is to expose the real value of Health insurance by stopping the subsidy. When people have to buy their own insurance and know that they can be cancelled at any time, the public will stop buying that piss poor product... I did exactly that a while back.

A national need for a health insurance solution will emerge.

So, STOP the subsidy!
