I don’t really relate to the ist-ing of human identity any more. I find it somewhat useful in distinguishing types of people who associate themselves that way but personally, I’ve found it a hindrance to my own growth. Where you place ist at the end of a word, defining specific a human being, you are virtually defining an artificial limitation for that human being. False dilemmas are imposed, such as: an evolutionist cannot be a person of faith, a believer must refuse to accept scientific evidence, etc. Human consciousness is unbounded except to the extent that we bind it to artificial limitations.
Evolution is simply a word that implies certain phenomenological aspects of things. Things develop, across time and circumstance, from simple to more complex, and in a beneficial manner. Technology is currently in the midst of a digital evolutionary process, biological organisms are constantly evolving, as are environmental systems; communication systems and social systems evolve, as does transportation, economic, Language and information systems etc. etc. etc. Every distinct entity and system is evolving. These are the facts and they are not under dispute by rational people.
It is entirely unnecessary to declare yourself to be an “evolutionist” in order to acquire an understanding of those facts, conversely declaring yourself to be an “ID creationist” does not discount the facts associated with evolutionary processes. |
