Jeff, I feel they needed the extra time to cook the books and then coerce their auditors into signing on to their tricks. Again! I don't think they worry much about short sellers/put buyers. However, I do believe they are sharpening their pencils to pull out every trick they know to report phony eps that are "better than expected." The reason is that they need financing, badly, and they need the stock up to sucker folks into a junk bond or convertible issue. That is really good news for bears. If the company thought business was really turning up, they would toss every possible loss into this quarter and try to hold back all the flim-flam for the first breakeven quarter in the future. But, they know business is horrible, so they are just trying for a short term bandaid fix that will allow them to raise the money they need to survive the chip disaster ahead of them. Deciphering this quarter's eps will be as much fun as analyzing International Paper, the all-time weird accounting leader. MB
