6/1/12 Contest Update
The week saw 10-year Treasuries close under 1.5%, a 220-year low. And, tweeted a Wall Street Journal reporter with a good memory:“Even in ancient Babylon (4%), Medieval Europe (6%), 1800s America (4%), no one was paying 1.6% for 10-year money.” Yet despite minuscule bond yields, investors showed scant interest in stocks with the Dow closing the week down for the year.
At Friday’s close, the Contest median was up 12.53% YTD (vs. up 18.15% YTD a week ago). In comparison, the Nasdaq Biotech Index was up 14.41% YTD (vs. up 19.84% YTD a week ago), while the Nasdaq Composite Index was up 5.46% YTD (vs. up 8.92% YTD a week ago).
DONS’ portfolio, up 43.67% YTD, suffered less than most and took back the Contest lead, with BIOJIM’s’ portfolio, up 37.84% YTD, falling to second place and BIOMAV’s portfolio, up 31.91% YTD, holding on to third place. (For RKRW fans, a hot week for ISR has lifted his portfolio to 5th place.)
At Friday's close, 9 of the 38 Contest portfolios were now in the red and 18 of the 38 portfolios were beating the NBI.
Below is the Top Ten list. Also below are the Top 5 & Bottom 5 Stocks ranked by % Gained and % Lost for the week. This week I’m also posting the Top 5 & Bottom 5 Stocks ranked by % Gained and % Lost YTD.
(Foreign stock prices are not converted to US$ in the weekly and YTD Top 5 & Bottom 5 tables, when posted.)
Portfolio adjustments: Yahoo quotes stopped using OB & PK in its symbols for Bulletin Board & Pink Sheet stocks. My spreadsheet symbols now reflect this change.
Try not to let the lousy market spoil your weekend biotechies!
(All corrections, especially adjustments for splits, greatly appreciated.)
