Hello brokenSt0nes,

I would imagine that the ST move is a defensive and/or a reflexive strike at InvenSense. If ST can extract IP information or concessions from InvenSense, then they have opened a wound. I think that InvenSense have done a better job of integrating the sensors into an API code set than have ST. InvenSense have also been busy working to integrate their code into Android.

See androidandme.com

They have been aggressively laying out a MEMS feature set for motion detection. I can’t say who might be chasing them at this level. This play hasn’t been ST’s area of expertise, so I can see how InvenSense might gain a first-mover’s advantage. We should assume that ST have determine that there is a serious threat that must be dealt with.

The stock price has an interesting profile: doubling over three months and then losing all the gains in another two months. I am curious if someone might want to protect the price at the $10 level. The next couple of months should help determine its real strength.
