Phillies team ERA for the month of May is 21st in the majors at 4.35. By contrast, their starting pitching ERA is 3.48 good enough for 4th behind only the Nats, Dodgers and Angels. No telling how that will now change with the injuries to Worley and Halladay. Kendrick pitched another good game last night. In hitting, here is where I am surprised as the Phils were 4th best in batting in May, hitting .282 behind the Dodgers, Rangers and Cards, which brings their average up to .267, good enough for third place for the season in the National League behind the Cards and Dodgers. Polanco is looking like Polanco again and Ruiz is absolutely on fire, batting .418 in the month of May! Our good hitting is helping to overcome our splotchy bullpen which is giving up more runs than normal. Now Contreras is injured and it looked serious, just as he was starting to become effective again. All of this makes a season and we're still in close contention with a lot of games to play.
