If you'd like to influence U.S. public policy on Year 2000, here's a notice about the upcoming meeting of the National Advisory Committee to OSHA. I e-mailed Madam Goodell this morning to ask her whether Year 2000 compliance on the factory floor & in the workplace was on the agenda as a workplace safety issue. You may recall press stories from earlier this year to the effect that the U.K. Health & Safety Executive (the U.K. equivalent of OSHA)is considering prosecuting manufacturers whose employees are injured (or worse) due to Year 2000-related safety failures:

NATIONAL ADVISORY COMMITTEE ON OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND HEALTH TO MEET DEC. 9 IN WASHINGTON, DC
The National Advisory Committee on Occupational Safety and Health (NACOSH) will hold a public meeting Dec. 9, 1997, in Washington, DC
The meeting will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Room N-3437 A-D of the Department of Labor Building, 200 Constitution Ave., N.W., in Washington.
Agenda items will include:
a.. a brief overview of current activities in the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH);
b.. a dialogue with OSHA's new Assistant Secretary, Charles N. Jeffress;
c.. updates on OSHA's 11(c)anti-discrimination program and OSHA's Cooperative Compliance Programs;
d.. a discussion of NIOSH's National Occupational Research Agenda (NORA); and
e.. reports from NACOSH's workgroups.
