That is the standard teaching about Reagan, but it was in Reagan's term when deficits and debt started to balloon and it hasn't stopped since. And yes, of course Obama has increased debt more than any other President in history. However, a lot of that increase was already baked in by the absolute profligacy of Bush Junior. There actually have not been a lot of discretionary increases ($126B) during Obama's term. Much of the new debt comes from WAR, Bush Juniors ongoing tax cuts, SS, and Medicare. The only control Obama has over the big reasons is his actions on the War front. The rest is out of his control. Just look at the budget breakdown and come back and tell me exactly what %age of it is discretionary. Then show me how much that increased since Bush Junior. Then we can talk facts.
