TA:<side effects, eye?cardiac?>>
I always get a chuckle with your posts concerning your hopeful search for the great significant Viagra side effect based on your theories. The real answer currently is in data that only Pfizer, Viagra investigators and the FDA currently have. In time, the FDA will complete its priority review of the Viagra Phase III studies, articles will be peer-reviewed, and physicians throughout the world will have the opportunity to conduct their own evaluations upon Viagra's approval.

However, some insight into the Phase III studies was revealed at Pfizer's R&D conference on October 30, 1997. Based on reports from that meeting, it is doubtful that significant side effects have appeared in these Phase III studies. If the statements concerning efficacy and safety at that meeting are false, someone was lying and probably, someone would end up in jail. The probability that this happened by a leading Pfizer executive is 0%.

TA's search for the elusive Viagra side effect may give VVUSers some short-term comfort that MUSE will beat out the evil Viagra or even keep it off the market. However, please recall the media reports that have you have been hearing and seeing over the last month that usually feature Viagra Phase III investigators. These same investigators have conducted studies on MUSE, Vasomax, and every other pending ED product. To date, I have not heard or read one report of the investigators' concern about Viagra's product profile. In fact, just the opposite is true. For example, last week CBS This Morning had a 5 minute segment on impotence hosted by CBS resident medical doctor Dr. Emily Senay. A Viagra investigator and patient were once again interviewed. Here are some highlights:
-"A revolutionary new pill may soon be available that could help millions of men."
-"20 million men suffer from ED".
-"Only 5% of ED patients seek treatment."
-"A new treatment now in development offers help for these men. It is a pill called Viagra."
-"The pill basically enhances what you have..You have to be sexually stimulated for the pill to work. That is one of the beauties of the pill... It is much more natural".
-"Many men find it's easier and far more discrete than some other available treatments. ...Other treatments are very cumbersome. This is a pill..Many more men would be much more willing to do something about it if there is a treatment like this available."
-"Side effects are very few, some headache and nausea but not significant side effects."
-"Sounds like some good news is on the horizon."

In summary, I am not asking VVUSers to join the PFE bandwagon. (We already have a fan club!)But, you must consider the possibility that Pfizer has accidently discovered a breakthrough oral product for ED that has an excellent safety profile. I believe this is a much more likely scenario than praying for a significant side effect that has not shown up in the Phase III studies.

I think that MUSE will eventually benefit from the introduction of Viagra in the market due to a rapid expansion of ED awareness. However, many investors and analysts do not understand physician prescribing behavior and the complexity of ED. Accordingly, there may be some initial price pressure on VVUS (as seen since 9/29/97), followed by a great buying opportunity when the positive impact of Viagra on MUSE is understood.

Good and honest investing to all!
