The Republicans will not stand up to police and fire unions. They always eventually capitulate with their tails between their legs.

They will attack schoolteachers (colossally weaker pensions and salaries) and other state offices that are proportionally female and minority. And then they will go after private unions, or what is left of them.

Now we all know that the middle class is angry and seniors are scared. The GOP has effectively twisted this into an attack on unions just as they twisted their ineptness at managing terrorism (and as we now know, FBI intel) into a war against Iraq.

The right propagates fear and ignorance in order to grow its power. The boogeymen may be unions (and Mexicans who look undocumented) and darkened images of Obama, today; tomorrow it will be something else, perhaps anonymous internet bot bullies like you all, perhaps they will go back to their tried and true "Jewish Communists."
