Going to make a change....
Last year I started thinking about the next stage in my life and told the school I was going to leave to create more time to do some things that I've been interested in pursuing. I told them that I'd been in one hot seat or another since I was 20 and it was time for me to step back from my COO role at the school. So....
They came back and said we don't want you to leave....what would you like to work on that would allow you the time you need and still add value to the school. I put together a "one sheeter" for them where I would focus on working with architects on a campus master plan, technology integration, some benchmarking on some issues important to the school, little executive consulting with the head of school, plus some coaching
....they said yes.
Here's the stuff that I'll be working on in my freed up time.
Amateur Senior Golf
Music - playing with a band...guitar
Writing something about the "Social Impact" of Digital Equipment Corp. not the success and failure, but the unique things the company did with its people, communities, how it was organized etc. Going to try it through stories that people will send me on a blog....some very important things were done by DEC. We'll see how it goes....I know there is a valuable story to tell there.
Time to travel with the bride and see grandchildren.
So, I am excited....this will be a big change for me...I've always been in the action...this will be a different kind of action. It's hard for me to let go, but I've only gotten the bends a few times so far....seriously, my CFO has taken over for me and he'll do very well.
It's always the stuff you don't know you don't know, is where the magic is. Just thought I'd share this with my NNBM Barmates
