TED, here is a idea....

You have 20+ years of experience in the development of tools.

Create a Web site, and/ or, a News Letter called Ted's Tool Report.

Charge a monthly subscription fee to people who are interested in you opinions of the latest year 2000 toolsets in the market place.

I don't think you will have a problem getting into the companies to look at their specific tools.

With your first hand experience in this arena, you could provide an unbiased compare and contrast between the best tools.

You could even set up the web site as a "introduction" and provide a fax on demand number where people could get the latest update for a nominal fee.

Think about how many people off of the SI would call. If you get enough hits on you site, you could also start to charge for advertising.

You may not even have to travel to some of the companies for a demo, you could probably get most of the info. over the phone or from some technical literature.
