The Republicans will not stand up to police and fire unions. They always eventually capitulate with their tails between their legs.

I disagree. They will do it differently, such as focusing on removing provisions where Union dues are collected by the gov't (which they have absolutely no business doing in the first place),

They will also find, and cast light upon, instances of fraud and abuses of power on the part of police. Additionally, they will focus on how Police pension schemes are bankrupting the budget of many municipalities.

There is also the ability to point out how the public is losing trust in their local police forces as they become indirect tax collectors, distracted by city fiduciaries from focusing upon protecting public safety from more violent crimes. Few cops actually like doing traffic stops, but they are being informally pressured to so, or financially incentivized such as being paid overtime by scheduling court appearances on their days off (a cop in Tucson once told me how common this was).

I'll be the first to support a professional and properly paid police and fire department. But some of these unions are so unrealistic in their compensatory expectations that they are far out of whack with the actual tax base that is paying their salaries.
