I will ignore the gratuitous Fox News comment except to say one ought not jump to conclusions. I'm about as liberal as they come. However, I am a practical businessperson.

Private sector employee costs are forced down by global competition from much lower income nations. We are in a historic age when the industrialized work force has doubled in a generation but demand has not, yet. Unless we are able somehow to suspend the laws of supply and demand, then there will be pressure on rich country incomes while poor country incomes grow. I view that as a good thing, in general.

If rich country incomes cannot grow, then you can't have one major sector (public employees) continue to have growth in income (income define broadly including pension and medical). The system becomes too far out of balance and people demand change.

That is where we are. We have a changed world and we must adjust to it. Spare me the tired old clliches, please. They will not solve the problem,
