Growing up in a third world country which had just won independence from the British Raj, i witnessed the havoc caused by politically motivated unions and the ever greedy rich. But today, India and China dictate to US capitalists how they should spend their capital if they take their capital to their countries. These countries do not need unions any more. They have the power of skilled labor. skills that were developed through a good education system. People pursuing degrees right upto the PhD level and it didn't matter if they had money or not because if they didn't then the Govt. provided them the funds. Yes the Govt.
And today, all that investment by the Govt. then is providing the benefits to countries like India. India is booming so much that I am on my way back to India on business as part of my schedule which calls for visiting India once every 6 weeks. And I was laid off here in 2010. Go figure. And my visit is for technology transfer of manufacturing automation. That should say it all.
And we in this country are twiddling our thumbs and deriving armchair pleasures wondering whether the other guy is a conservative or a liberal, whether that one is for labor or against labor, whether that guy is a society sucker or that guy deserves be be an object of our compassion. We had a primary campaign where Santorum chided our President's call for increasing opportunities for our children to get college degrees!!! And many applauded Santorum!!!
Excuse me America You folks have your brains in your balls. You are so concerned about leaving a debt for the next generation but you are not concerned about leaving them illiterate and uneducated? You take an Indian kid who monetarily is poor, has to sit and study at night by the street light because his/her hut does not have a bright light and has a flickering kerosene lamp only. Take that kid and ask him/her any question in geography, science, physics and chemistry and pat will come the correct answer. You ask that kid questions on math and pat comes the answer. And then I see these folks being interviewed on the streets of media rich cities of the US and really shocking, really shocking to see how ignorant they are. There have a Mercedes all right, they have their bottle of coke all right, some even have jewelry on them. But what do they have inside their brains?
It is seriously time for all of America to wake up noy just Warren Buffet but also the Koch brothers etc and seriously get involved in training the workforce to meed the needs of tomorrow. They need to frame what Elizabeth Warren said which is so very true in that these capitalists have made their money because of the efforts of the labor force. If they fail to realize that then they will soon realize that th ey are cutting off the branch they are sitting. On the labor side, they too need to realize that they will not benefit in spending their energies on worthless efforts such as recall and strike.
They got a shining example on what we Americans can achieve when we all come together: GM. Thank you Mr. President for having provided that leadership in raising this country's awareness that working together we can achieve heights of excellence that no other nation can. Thank God, Santorum lost. And we will have one more chance to thank God when Romney's ideas of not helping this nation out of a crisis fails. |
