Samsung sells 52 million Galaxy S and S II; and Galaxy S III on its way to surpass those numbers June 04th, 2012 - 11:15 am ET by C. D. us.generation-nt.com
Having just released the Samsung Galaxy S III, the South Korean group is celebrating the success of its two predecessors – the Galaxy S and the Galaxy S II.
Samsung is hoping to make the Samsung Galaxy S III a worthy successor in the Galaxy range - first released in 2010 with the Samsung Galaxy S. This device helped Samsung gain a foothold in the smartphone market before they went on to become the global leader.
The South Korean manufacturer is hoping to ship millions (and even tens of millions) of units despite its top of the line position. Samsung has a lot of money to spend on marketing to give the handset a push, with this new smartphone being pushed to mobile carriers the world over.
To provide an idea of this phones expectations, Samsung has reminded everyone that they had shipped more than 50 million smartphones in the Galaxy S range since 2010, stating that 24 million Galaxy S and 28 million Galaxy S II’s had been sold.
While the Galaxy S was a shining light, the Galaxy S II, launched in 2011, made Samsung a major player in the Android smartphones market, increasing their visibility over HTC who had taken a precarious lead in this segment.
A few weeks after its official unveiling, it is rumoured that 9 million Galaxy S III smartphones have been pre-ordered by carriers, confirming the strong demand for this model which is hoping to capitalise on the strong sales from this range.
We will now have to wait and see whether the public will take on this release from the Galaxy S range, at the same time Samsung is looking to build on the success of another model – the Samsung Galaxy Note with its 5.3" display, with this device having already shipped 7 million units since its launch in October 2011. |
