>> And you blame that on the economy?
Not fully, but at least in significant part.
But it is time for everyone to understand that the jobs that are lost are not coming back. They are lost largely because of technological innovation, and our failed education system is not doing its job, which is to prepare people for these changes.
It is a tragedy that is a direct result of teacher's unions and federal government's involvement in education, which has resulted in ever-increasing costs to deliver poorer educations.
One of the next industries to fall, IMO, will be the current university system. And that has great potential to become a boon to education. Everyone will be able to get an Ivy-league education at reasonable cost, and the university system as we know it will crumble quickly. Just as Amazon killed bookstores, iTunes killed the Cd industry, the newspaper industry has collapsed, so, too, will the university system. The trillion dollars in student loans will be lost, as well.
I can't wait. Instead of unionized, tenured teachers we'll have quality educators who are compensated based on merit, with services offered at reasonable cost to students who want to learn. |
