  • Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee said President Barack Obama is “throwing concrete blocks” at the private sector and drowning its ability to create jobs.

Huckabee, appearing Sunday on ABC’s “This Week,” said Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney created jobs while at Bain Capital and made it possible for more Americans to earn a living.

“Obama’s statement was so just crystal clear: The private sector is fine,” Huckabee said of the president’s recent remark. “I can see that on a loop in a commercial. If the economy is still this bad in October, you’ll hear that statement over and over.”

Huckabee, who previously ran for president as a Republican, stood behind Romney and said he would not criticize the former Massachusetts governor’s record at Bain Capital.

“Here’s the thing: In every case, it was that he created jobs,” he said. “It’s the purpose of a business to make a profit. They made jobs and created wealth for people, and they made it possible for people to go work. I think Obama is throwing concrete blocks out there . . . by creating a business environment where people can’t survive.”

Obama’s weakness is a lack of expertise in leadership, Huckabee said.

“I think what is really hurting Barack Obama, he simply does not understand the dynamics of being the chief executive because he’s never had that position before,” he said. “He has never been in that position, and it’s showing.”

On the topic of the military security leaks that occurred last week, Huckabee said he wouldn’t be surprised if someone in the White House was to blame.

“The fact that people under him thought that they were doing him a favor by letting this stuff out to show that he’s really tough, yes, I do believe that that would happen during an election year and probably did,” he said of Obama’s staff.
