Or your resistance to unions. In this country Chinu, unions saved the working poor and lifted them out of poverty and into the middle class status. Or reading people like Walker. He is evil and very dangerous. I am not resistant to unions. What I resist is that the workers are taken advantage of by the capitalists as well as the politically connected union bosses. Nobody cares for the line workers who are the union members. The unions 100 years ago did serve the interest of the workers. But not today. Obama, who has also seen several cultures and have been very well exposed to why some nations remain in the third world in spite for their resources to advance, also gave a cold shoulder to Wisconsin. Look at his handling of GM where he fired the top management as well as dictated to the union what to do. And that approach remains successful. That approach did and continues to serve the interest of the auto workers, a solution which is an alternative to the politically motivated auto union bosses of 4 years ago. It has nothing to do with culture. It has everything to do with what a person has experienced not because of that person's culture.
But sometimes, I think, you take certain perceptions from your primary culture and they don't translate very well into our culture. Now I have my own views about social issues like those on divorces, alcoholism, marital infidelity etc. etc. I haven't expressed those here except on the "women's right to choose." Now those are based on my culture. since I have expressed myself on this issue but not fully, please allow me to express how my cultural background influences my thought and at the same time scoff at those folks who are against abortion and say that they do so in the name of God and preserving life.
With the birth of a child, the responsibility for preserving that life passes on from the mother to the society. When the child is in the womb, it is God who has decided and given the mother the responsibility for that life. It is the mother who is answerable to God, her behavior such as smoking, drinking etc. during pregnancy etc. etc. So when they have a childbirth where the mother dies giving birth but the child survives, people say that it is God's will and we surrender to the will of God in keeping with our religious beliefs.
If there are doctors who abort, people don't go and kill the doctor because the belief is that God will take care of that if God desires so.
We had two greats who were assassinated by their people: Gandhi and Dr. King. The reasons for the assassinations were different. I can enumerate what those were but I don't think this would serve the interests of the posters here.
