" As of 6/1/11 or 7 months out (2.3 was released Dec 6, 2010) gingerbread had less than 10% or similar to ICS. "

What's a matter, you don't believe the crap you post? Look at the chart you posted again. The date of the 2.3 AOSP release was just after 12/15/10. For comparison, the release date of the 4.0 AOSP was just before 11/15/11.

Gingerbread was released later in its calendar year than ICS was, by MORE than a month.

Since it was released a month later in the year, 7/1/11 is the date for the Gingerbread adoption cycle that is comparable to 6/1/12 for ICS (in other words, 7.5 months post-release). The corresponding dates are offset by a month.

Adoption as a % of total Android base
months post release Gingerbread Ice cream sandwich
5.5 4% (5/1/11) 2.9% (4/1/12)
6.5 10% (6/1/11) 4.9% (5/1/12)
7.5 18% (7/1/11) 7.1% (6/1/12)
