How about this strategy: Borland produces a glowing analysis of the market for CORBA-based products and announces an licensing deal with Visigenic to include their CORBA technology in every enterprise product. Unmoved, the market chooses to ignore the news and BORL opens the next day up a 1/16. Meanwhile, VSGN shareholders are elated and their stock move up 3 full points. Instead, BORL buys the company and the stock skids into the dirt. That's all fine unless and until IBM throttles them again with the introduction of their own commodity Java/C++ ORBs.
