Re: Mexican billionaire Carlos Slim has bought an 8.4% stake in YPF (NYSE: YPF). Be careful with your assumptions. Slim lent the Peterson group money so they could buy their YPF stake. Now the Peterson company can't repay. It looks like the 8.4% is the Peterson group's stock being taken as collateral for the loan which may be in default.
