Yes, John, I can agree with everything you say, it's just a matter of semantics. When I say that the deep south is anti-intellectual I mean it in the same way I mean it when I say that the northeast is industrial. Not every person in the south is anti-intellectual and not very region of the northeast is industrial but there is a good basis for each statement.

And, of course, as you say, things can change. The problem is that it seems that post 9/11 and Bush, the last decade has seen a change in the wrong direction. Ed
