Your point?

There used to be conservative Democrats and liberal Republicans. That's not true anymore. The Republicans were the party of Lincoln, trustbuster Teddy Roosevelt, and progressive icon Robert La Follette. Imagine those guys signing Grover Norquist's latest pledge.

Johnson knew what he was doing to the Democratic party when he got the civil rights act of 1964 passed, something I point out periodically, most recently in Message 28195826 . Johnson was pretty courageous. It was the right thing to do. Nixon was already working the southern strategy 4 years later, though George Wallace stole some of his thunder there. I guess the real pioneer was Barry Goldwater, but he was a little premature. Nixon blazed the path for the current course of the former party of Lincoln, but I doubt Nixon even in his most psycho days could have imagined the bastion of Obama hatred the current GOP is. It's just sad.
