"No reasoning with that kind of behavior."

Please tell that to Plouffe, soonest.
I think it's silly to believe that Plouffe, Obama, and the rest of the campaign aren't aware of how thoroughly intransigent the Republicans are, have been, and will be. They know that better than you or I do, I'm sure. However, I wonder, what do you think their message to the American people should be, in light of this knowledge?

Should they say, "We're not going to work with the Republicans or try to compromise on anything, because they're a bunch of meanies?" Should they say, "We're going to do everything we want to do, no matter what those horrible Republicans think?"

I believe that the message they're sending is the right one. Essentially it's "We're here and we're willing to work with the Republicans." Let the American public know that Obama is ready to work with the Republicans, but that he can't get anything done because they refuse to compromise one teeny little bit. That will at least give Dems a chance to gain some ground in Congress in 2014, which might give Obama a chance to get things done for his last two years in office.

Simply saying that they won't work with the Republicans would be bad PR, and wouldn't accomplish anything.
