My read of the economic turmoil is that Japan and the US are in way bigger debt trouble than Europe. One of the main reasons are demographics mostly in Japan, but also in the US. EU can always reach out to CEE countries to generate more revenue.

For the market at present it is easier to beat up each EU member and short their bonds even naked, in the US things are more complicated to short munibonds
