I am for taking most things out of the military's hands and putting it in the diplomats hands

If there is fighting going on involving American Soldiers you can't have diplomats ruling on military missions. Diplomats see their roles as working out solutions thru negotiations and compromises. Once fighting has commenced it's too late for that--at least in terms of tactical missions.

If they want to negotiate peace fine. Get them in other rooms with the other diplomats and negotiate peace, but don't let them comment on military tactical missions. State can always have input at the WH on the effect of the military tactics on diplomacy.

And you know our tactics with drones are effective---we've taken out the top 3 Al Qeuda leaders in the last year. That's why they, through their unofficial supporter, Pakistan, are screaming bloody murder about it.

Now you can make the case we shouldn't even be there and I might agree, but once American lives are on the line there the first priority has to go to what protects them and the military is better suited to handle that then the diplomats.
