Absolutely true. Religions are open to wide interpretation. We rely on the, so called, experts to help us understand and decipher their meaning. Alas, these experts have their own agenda, only few that would honestly tell us the correct meaning. Like you said, unless the writer in here to explain, no one will ever know what is right and what is wrong. Thus, one needs faith and filters out what does not suit his/her life. If one to looks beyond the experts BS, one can see that all religions promote enlightenment and goodness.

As in the book "The Conference of the Birds" by Farid Eldeen Attar, we need help/a nudge/a change in the way we think of ourselves to reach enlightenment.
