Most certainly Nokia's inputs were taken into account and those will ripple through the evolved OS with its new kernel. Nokia inherited a Microsoft developed chassis spec and OS fitted to it that they had no inputs into developing. That spec was hardly leading edge at the time the first WinPhones hit the market in late 2010 before the partnership was established. Considerably more powerful multi-core silicon will be used to power WinPhone 8 and competitive products. Backwards comparability for the lowest common denominator of older equipment would be exceptionally burdensome excess baggage to account for. The WinPhone base is still small enough not to have to carry it. Short term pain, long term gain drove the decision, I suspect that WinPhone 7.8 will be around for a long time and will power phones that are competitive with the low-end Androids that as a practical matter can not power ICS, and will never be upgraded beyond Android 2.3x. By the way Rich B, are you by any chance related to the famous Rich Birecki of "Rich Makes You Rich" at richmakesyourich.com that you linked? Talk about the generation of "noise" and the pulp press. - Eric -
