Microsoft Just Shafted Its Most Important Smartphone Partner, Nokia (MSFT, NOK) - SFGate

I'm wondering if the nerd echo chamber isn't working overtime on this. I mean, this is just a phone, fancy yes, but just a phone. The average consumer is probably better off without an upgrade that will likely degrade performance more than it enhances features. These things are designed to have the hardware work with the software seamlessly. Not to have the hardware work with every software upgrade forever.

We don't expect other consumer products to add features over time. A car, a refrigerator, a toaster? Only computers and smartphones. And I'm not sure the "average" consumer expects that from smartphones. But who knows?
