Actually it is basically an anti-government issue. People who complain about how "big" the US government is tend to be the ones denouncing "regulations".....always created by "big" government. Of course behind the "big" government complaints are the desires to cut welfare and take away the relatively small (by civilized world standards) protections the US affords to the poor and working class. The deficit and debt hysteria has the same origins. When the GOP is in power deficits don't matter (Cheney) but when the Democrats are in power they are evil itself. And of course in the G20 the US has the smallest government of all except for Mexico and Chile.
