Be it stupid or desperate or both, but it does seem that we are near an end of an era. Hegel's logic led him to the conclusion that State is the highest expression of human spirit. Marx used the same logic to develop his egalitarian utopia. Lenin, Stalin, Hitler and some others tried to translate Marxism and similar statist ideas into reality, but that proved to be ugly. Modern Western neo-Marxists did much better with their softer, kinder version, aka Socialism with a human face, and that lasted for a long time, up until recently. Unfortunately, over time politicians became complacent, started taking things for granted, and spent everything we had, and a lot more. Around the World in 14 Seconds.... :)
