Re Pricing

Using a dominant position in the market to extract additional dollars is not a good idea. The example of Macs vs PC's is a real important lesson. Microsoft has used its dominant position(unfairly at times) to popularize its products by making the point of entry inexpensive. If diehard developers (like the one mentioned in the usenet post) decide to ditch WIND because of prices then the snowball effect can be painful. The very fact that he was willing to consider Windows CE2.0 despite all its shortcomings is cause for concern. The aim here is to be the Microsoft of the RTOS not a niche player (albeit dominant) like Apple. At this stage WIND should be be doing everything to popularize its product and ensuring that a critical mass is achieved.
