Maybe it's like Nixon and the EPA, even the occasional orthodox conservative sees something they think will be a genuine boon for the country for decades to come, like SS and Medicare were.

Once all of the ACA goes into effect, the notion it could ever be repealed is nonsense. Imagine telling millions of voters their healthcare could vanish overnight, and see how they respond.
