Its not a lack of understanding on my part, its the tax not fitting in to the words of the constitution. There may be some (unnamed in the decision) precedent where the court said something like this is a constitutional tax, but no commenter I've read on either side of the issue has mentioned any. Looking directly to the constitution itself there is a clear requirement that federal taxes have to either be indirect/excise taxes, or income taxes, or taxes apportioned among the states based on population.

I've quoted those requirement more than once, and you just keep ignoring them. Its not my own opinion, or some radical conservative or libertarian commenter that I'm posting, but direct quotes from the constitution.
