I seem to recall that the government's lawyer was making some strange arguments before the SC, calling the mandate different things - sometimes a tax, other times a penalty, etc. I recall people laughing about this, calling the guy an incompetent fool, etc. But - maybe he wasn't such a fool. Maybe he was smarter than his boss, and was opening grounds for alternative interpretations.
But - it's just a memory. I may be mistaken. I do not like the decision, but at this point, it is what it is.
If this nation is about to enter a period of socialistic turbulence and economic stagnation, like they have in Argentina, this will not happen because of Roberts. If we already do have a majority which believes in nanny state and in Robin Hoodist full scale redistribution, we're screwed anyway. For now, I intend to speak my mind, enjoy the summer - and wait for November. |
