A colleague, whom I respect because I know his true self, was in the Marines in Vietnam. I've been out with him in the woods, navigating through steep and rugged country, and sleeping on the hard ground. I have heard his war stories, and they are nothing I would want to live through myself.

He said he made up his mind to regard his Vietnam tour as his home, and it enabled him to survive the unspeakable in good humor.

I had to suppress my inner laughter when he would respond to dipstick questions in meetings with some ridiculous comment that revealed his total disdain for the marshmallow reasoning behind them. It made him sound like a wise-ass, but I knew what he meant.

PS What kind of movies?
